Anglorand has provided the main sponsorship to allow a unique championship to take place in South Africa. The world's best pilots will take a crack at the World Paragliding Distance Record. There are two teams involved in this championship. The South African Team : Pete Wallenda, Greg Hamerton, Nevil Hulett, Bernie Kelly and guest star Ewa Wisnierska (Germany). The Swiss Team : Alfredo Studer, André Bussman, Urs Nadler. Although good sportmanship will ensure their co-operation on the ground, the rivalry between the nations in the air means that this will be a nail-biting competition as the pilots push the limits in the race for the new world record. Will the Swiss team fly the furthest or will the South Africans set the new world standard? The official record stands at 423km set by Will Gadd in Texas, while the as-yet-unratified record stands at 462km, which is an incredible distance, but the X-SA teams are confident that they stand a good chance at toppling this record. The pilots have the best equipment, supplied by SWING paragliders, and they have years of experience to help them achieve their goal. We will be submitting news daily on the X-SA South African team's progress so you can check it out right here at www.x-sa.co.za. To follow the progress of the Swiss team in detail, visit their site at www.x-sa.ch We would like to say a big thank you to our sponsors for their support and contributions. |
